Operates an automated refuse collection vehicle or a semi-automated rear loading solid waste collection truck to collect yard waste, municipal solid waste, and recyclable materials as required in support of the city’s integrated curbside collection program.
•Operates an automated refuse collection vehicle on a regular basis.
•May be required to operate semi-automated collection truck or other smaller vehicle in support of the integrated solid waste program.
• Performs daily operator inspection, maintenance and repairs on all vehicles operated. Assembles and repairs automated containers.
• Debags leaves at the curb or yard waste facility.
•Operates hand tools such as rakes, pitchforks, brooms and shovels as required. Lifts fully loaded yard waste bags and other debris weighing between 50-100 lbs.
• Assists in overall solid waste collection program supporting other collections as required and demonstrates commitment to quality service delivery.
•Performs other related duties as required.Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED is preferred. Minimum of three (3) year’s of experience operating refuse collection vehicles or similar equipment; ability to follow and complete specific routes within an established time schedule; ability to work independently; ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with the general public and other personnel; positive attitude regarding providing taxpayer with high value service for their tax dollars; ability to safely operate refuse collection vehicles in all weather conditions; ability to perform physically demanding work to include the ability to lift yard waste bags weighing 50–100 pounds. General knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the proper operation, inspection and maintenance of refuse collection equipment. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Class A) or possess a Class A permit. Must have satisfactory driver’s record based on the city’s criteria. Any person offered employment in this position shall be required to successfully pass testing for controlled substances.Performs under the general supervision of a solid waste foreman. Independently operates all refuse collection vehicles and makes on the spot decisions in response to discussions with citizens or when faced with unusual circumstances. Duties are performed in all types of weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, pollen, leaves, grass, fumes, and odors. May require working 10 hours per day, 4 days per week. Must work overtime hours and holidays as required. Work is performed on city streets and is potentially hazardous. This is a non-exempt position
